Blowdown is the removal of water saturated with suspended solids and dissolved salts from a steam boiler. In order to transfer the blowdown water to the wastewater, the flash steam in the pipes must be removed and the temperature of the water entering the wastewater must be reduced. For this purpose, a blowdown vessel used. The blowdown vessel is not pressurized and the flash steam is discharged to the atmosphere through a vent at the top of the tank. Also, a steam trap and control valve are not required to discharge the water.
